Why We Built Merzio: E-Commerce for Those Who Refuse to Depend on Anyone
When we started building Merzio, we asked ourselves one question: What does a small or medium business owner actually need to sell online — without depending on another developer, another plugin, or another third party?
That question set our direction for years.
What We Saw in the Market
The Czech and Slovak market has solid e-commerce solutions. We’re not here to criticize them — they work well for many merchants. But we noticed something they all had in common: a lack of real independence for the merchant.
Most platforms are built on a model where the base price is just the entry fee. Want Zásilkovna integration? Plugin. B2B pricing for wholesale? Plugin. Loyalty program? Plugin. Invoices synced to your accounting software? Plugin.
Every plugin is:
- Another monthly cost — with 3–5 plugins you can easily end up paying 2–3× the base plan price
- Another dependency — if a plugin breaks or raises its price, you’re stuck
- Another risk — every platform update can break compatibility
For a business owner who wants to grow rather than troubleshoot tech problems, that’s a bad foundation.
What We Did Differently
We built Merzio on a simple principle: everything a merchant truly needs to sell must be part of the platform from day one. No extras. No installations. No API configuration required.
| Feature | Status in Merzio |
|---|---|
| Stripe, GoPay, Comgate, Finby, Pay24 | Built-in |
| Zásilkovna, GLS, Czech Post (labels) | Built-in |
| Kros, Pohoda (ERP sync) | Built-in |
| B2B pricing and customer groups | Built-in |
| Loyalty program (points, tiers) | Built-in |
| Multi-language and multi-currency | Built-in |
| Analytics & Merzio AI | Built-in |
| Drag & drop page editor | Built-in |
These aren’t premium features. These are the basics every e-shop should have.
Why It Matters
Imagine it’s Friday evening and a customer can’t complete their payment — the gateway stopped working after an update. You call the plugin’s support, not the platform. You wait. Revenue isn’t being earned.
Or: you want to add B2B pricing for a new wholesale partner. You find out your platform doesn’t support it without a €49/month premium plugin.
These are real scenarios merchants face. At Merzio we want to avoid them systematically — not patch by patch.
Who Merzio Is For
Merzio is not for everyone. It’s for business owners and companies that:
- Want to launch an e-shop quickly without depending on an external developer
- Sell (or plan to sell) to other businesses — the B2B segment
- Operate in the Czech or Slovak market and need local-first tooling
- Don’t want to pay separately for features they’d need anyway
If your current platform works and you’re not planning to scale — Merzio might not be for you. But if you’ve ever had to install another plugin just to handle a basic need — we understand each other.
Where We Are Today
Merzio is a platform in active development. We add new features regularly based on feedback from real merchants.
